How to get to the Venue from the US

After years of traveling back and forth between the US and Europe, we gathered all our useful tips and tricks for you here.

Arriving by Plane

Flying into Paris, France 

  • Direct flights from LAX to Paris, France (10.5 hrs non-stop) with Delta, Air France, are all great, and budget Flights can be found with Norse Atlantic, Air Tahiti Nui, and French Bee.

  • Flights from San Diego can also be found around similar price points but with longer travel. 

  • If you fly out of LAX, there is the SD→ LAX→SD train (with charging plugs) and Airport Shuttle, around $10-$15 each way.

  • The bus shuttle (from the train station in LA) skips the LA traffic

  • The average in July cost $900, if you find it for less, ideally $700/$800, book it immediately.

  • When searching please use incognito, clear cookies/cache, and use a VPN if possible. 

On Arrival

If you have the time, it’s a great idea to stay in Paris for a night or two before continuing the travel to the Normandy region.

If you want to take the train from Paris to Normandy, we’d reccomend to find a Hotel relativly close to the St. Lazare train station.

We usually look for Arrondissement (districts) 2, 9 or 10.

Getting to Périers, France from the Paris Airport

 If possible, staying in Paris for a night (or two) is highly recommended.

By Train

  • From Paris, we strongly recommend taking the 3-hour train to Cherbourg or Caen, FR.(yes, there is drink service on the trains as well as a restaurant car)

  • You can book your tickets from Paris, FR to Cherbourg or Caen, FR here:https://www.sncf-connect.com/

  • Please make sure to reserve seats, on the chance it is a full train, you will be booted from your seat if someone has reserved it.

  • Marius and I have made this mistake and had to sit on the ground for 4-hrs because it was overbooked. However, that was Prague, so not too surprising, lol.

Renting A Car in the region

  • Once in Cherbourg, there are all the standard rental car companies.

  • Look into your credit card, there are usually good deals with your card

  • We recommend grouping up, so you can share a car. There are 7 and 9 seaters available. Once at the venue, there will be minimal driving needed if any.

By Car

If you rent a car in Paris, it will take around 4 hrs, and that is highly dependent on traffic, Paris traffic = LA traffic and there are French tolls (2-40 euros)

 

Driving Rules

  • Do not pass on the right, people will freak out

  • You have to move back into the right lane once you have passed a slower car on the right.

  • A sign that is just a circle with a cross in it = 130 kmh on a highway aka auto bahn, otherwise, the limit is posted

  • They use speed cameras, so 5 kmh +/- is ok, anything more is a gamble

  • Going 1 to 20 km/h over the limit incurs a fine of €68 to €135
